Why is Forward Still Employing Alt Right Writer Josh Seidel?

blmm5hyg-1472136801

A couple of months ago, as the Alt Right was getting its first rash of attention after the Hillary Clinton speech, an unknown writer named Josh Seidel published a story at the Jewish publication Forward illustrating that he was both a Jew and Alt Right.  He cited the need for white identity politics, restricted immigration, and a Trump victory, and it sent the actual Alt Right into an uproar.  The Alt Right as a white nationalist fascist movement is virulently anti-Semitic, naming the Jews as the primary enemies of the white race.  They then attacked Seidel for both being a Jewish infiltrator and clearly not understanding what the Alt Right was, and instead he was more of an Alt Liter.

We agree that he doesn’t get it, at least entirely.  For Seidel he seems to mean being iconoclastic and “edgy,” but his work was picked up in race realist publications like American Renaissance.  He loved this attention and went on to list American Renaissance on his Twitter, showing his allegiance to the publication and organization that believes that black people are genetically inferior to whites.  He has continued to claim victory for the Alt Right, and harasses leftists on Twitter in an attempt to bolster his own far right resume.

The question then comes up as to why, after a fascist movement has grown that has put Jews specifically in their crosshairs, has the Jewish publication Forward continued to prop up a self-described fascist?  This comes largely from the inability for many to actually realize the extent of the Alt Right’s fascist and racialist politics, especially their violent anti-Semitism.  It is time to tell Forward what is really going on here and to ask that they remove his content and cease to do business with Seidel.

You can contact the editors at Forward at the information below and tell them how you feel about them publishing a nationalist in a Jewish publication.  They are walking on the memories of the six million who were tortured and murdered in Europe, and we will not stand another pogrom.

#DisruptJ20: Mass Action Called for January 20th, Donald Trump Inauguration Day

#DisruptJ20: Call for a bold mobilization against the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2017

On Friday, January 20, 2017, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States. We call on all people of good conscience to join in disrupting the ceremonies. If Trump is to be inaugurated at all, let it happen behind closed doors, showing the true face of the security state Trump will preside over. It must be made clear to the whole world that the vast majority of people in the United States do not support his presidency or consent to his rule.

Trump stands for tyranny, greed, and misogyny. He is the champion of neo-nazis and white Nationalists, of the police who kill the Black, Brown and poor on a daily basis, of racist border agents and sadistic prison guards, of the FBI and NSA who tap your phone and read your email. He is the harbinger of even more climate catastrophe, deportation, discrimination, and endless war. He continues to deny the existence of climate change, in spite of all the evidence, putting the future of the whole human race at stake. The KKK, Vladimir Putin, Golden Dawn, and the Islamic State all cheered his victory. If we let his inauguration go unchallenged, we are opening the door to the future they envision.

Trump’s success confirms the bankruptcy of representative democracy. Rather than using the democratic process as an alibi for inaction, we must show that no election could legitimize his agenda. Neither the Democrats nor any other political party or politician will save us—they just offer a weaker version of the same thing. If there is going to be positive change in this society, we have to make it ourselves, together, through direct action.

From day one, the Trump presidency will be a disaster. #DisruptJ20 will be the start of the resistance. We must take to the streets and protest, blockade, disrupt, intervene, sit in, walk out, rise up, and make more noise and good trouble than the establishment can bear. The parade must be stopped. We must delegitimize Trump and all he represents. It’s time to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and the world that sustains us as if our lives depend on it—because they do.

In Washington, DC

DC will not be hospitable to the Trump administration. Every corporation must openly declare whether they side with him or with the people who will suffer at his hands. Thousands will converge and demonstrate resistance to the Trump regime. Save the date. A website will appear shortly with more details. #DisruptJ20

Around the US

If you can’t make it to Washington, DC on January 20, take to the streets wherever you are. We call on our comrades to organize demonstrations and other actions for the night of January 20. There is also a call for a general strike to take place. Organize a walkout at your school now. Workers: call out sick and take the day off. No work, no school, no shopping, no housework. #DisruptJ20

Around the World

If you are living outside the US, you can take action at US embassies, borders, or other symbols of neocolonial power. Our allegiance is not to “making America great again,” but to all of humanity and the planet. #DisruptJ20

Spread the word. Join the fight. #DisruptJ20

Should Anti-Fascists Vote? A Debate

While the mostly anarchist anti-fascist movement would likely never devolve into a question of voting for liberal candidates, the unique nature of this year’s election has changed many opinions.  With the potential of a Donald Trump victory on the horizon, many are asking the question of whether or not supporting Hillary Clinton as simply a way to dethrone the nationalist movement.  Given the election results creeping up on us late tonight, we have decided to present a quick debate between two competing opinions on whether or not voting is an worthwhile anti-fascist act in this context.

No Ballot Box

by Anti-Fascist Front

The question about voting is one that tends to divert from what the real question ends up being: how to build anti-fascist movements and projects that can confront the real core of the movement.  It may be a benefit if Trump is not voted in, especially in that it will cut off the connection between the Alt Right and the mainstream GOP.  At the same time, the struggle against fascism will only continue as the component parts are still built into the neoliberal world.  Clinton herself is voice of the ruling class, one that will likely attack unions, support police murder, continue the march off the cliff of climate change, deregulate financial markets, and celebrate international bombing campaigns.  She herself is not a fascist, and instead is part and parcel of American capitalism, so it is hard for many to actually expect casting a ballot will do much more than act as self congratulation.

No matter what you do today, spend no more than a few minutes on it.  If you cast a ballot, then fine, and if you choose to burn yours in protest, that is great as well.  What matters is what you do tomorrow, whether you begin working in your community to build an anti-fascist movement.  This can be supporting anti-racist education projects or Antifa organizations in your city.  It can be standing in the streets yelling Black Lives Matter or confronting anti-immigrant sentiments in schools and police unions.  It means building a mass movement to undo “Trumpism” as a social concept, and that will be required whether or not Trump loses tonight.

Election results will not unring the bell of the Alt Right, and so it is going to be a necessity for us to find a way to contribute to on-the-ground work, movement building and community organizing.  That is where the battle is had, so do not allow this flurry of button pushing to obscure what is really required in this struggle.

Vote

by Karl Starkweather

I contend that one should vote.

Living under liberal democracy is better than living under fascism. It is also better in terms of the Left’s ability to move in an egalitarian direction.

More concretely, currents existed prior to the rise of Trump and the neo-Nationalist movements around the globe, but Trump and the neo-Nationalist movements outside the US have helped manifest new forces and embolden older strains. And whether Trump wins or loses on the 8th, these new and old currents will have to be confronted beyond the ballot box. Still, we as Anti-Fascists must stay true to the call we took up: that the heads of State, military, and economy, when confronted with fascism, either cannot stop it or will absolve themselves into it. The only true cure for the disease of fascism is popular resistance. And in the USA, there is not currently a working mass popular resistance outside of the Democratic Party.

How? In power, a moderate-Left party does more good for the 99%. In the United States, I personally benefit from a Democratic NLRB, for instance, and from the various (inadequate and non-universal) social services and aid that nonetheless have a real impact on the day-to-day life of myself and loved ones. In addition, women are more likely to be able to access the full spectrum of health services they need; there will be more support for reforming our racist criminal justice system so I can see more energy in the world not be totally annihilated; there will remain some semblance of hope that millions–including people close to me–won’t be violently removed by Trump’s militarization of ICE; and the list goes on.

Furthermore, to be Sorelian or Nietzschean, getting turned on by “catastrophic myths” that heighten contradictions—or the proposition “that which is falling should also be pushed” by not voting or voting 3rd party—is quintessentially fascist. Only such an irrational-artistic-metaphysics of the fascist could visualize joy in that violent chaos. Are we Anti-Fascists for the people? Or are we enamoured of that fascist myth—seeing destructive chaos as some “hygiene” for the people?

What is wrong with voting then, if it can keep some things that impact real marginalized people in place? Maybe make some things better? There has been progress in some areas, the last 8 years under Democrats. It could be much better and it is our duty to make it that way. We have to continue stepping up. The Left, if more imaginative, and with more agency, could comprehend of a world where the far-Left would help win victories for the moderate Left while at the same time building a movement to turn the moderate movements more to the Left, usurp them, or transcend them (depending on your ideological persuasion).

So, as Anti-Fascists, I contend that we must use the means available. At present, in America specifically, today on November 8th, it’s the ballot box. Vote against Trump today and for the Democrats. That is the job for today, and will enable us to continue to do our job tomorrow.

Antifascists disrupt National Front gathering in Marseille

A report back from an anti-fascist organizer who confronted France’s fascist Front National in France on November 5th.
The police had blocked the surrounding streets with anti-riot barriers, restricting access to the square, but we eventually make it through one by one, occupying part of the square and deploying our banners (“Ravier fuck off”, “Migrants welcome, fascists out”, “Welcome to our fellow humans”).

We chuck a few eggs at the National Front supporters, who are gathered on the other side of the square behind a line of riot police, and disrupt their speeches with chants of “Tout le monde déteste les fachos“, “Refugiés Welcome, Fachos Go Home“, “Massilia Antifascista“, “Siamo tutti antifascisti“, “Pas de quartier pour le fachos…“, “On a pas peur de toi, sale faf, rentre chez toi, sale faf” and other merry rhymes.

Eventually the pitiful and disappointed Frontists conclude their event with an attempt to play the national anthem, which is drowned out by choruses of “fuck off”s. As they finally leave under police protection, about 400 of us set off on a spontaneous unauthorised demo, determined to shout out loud our solidarity with migrants and our opposition to borders, to the National Front, and to xenophobia. Graffiti appears on walls, a few banks and insurance companies are redecorated. The bystanders we meet along the way are generally quite pleasantly surprised.

At the port, we head on towards the National Front headquarters, but when we pass in front of the tribunal a series of police vans reappear, apparently trying to block our route. We all run forward to try and get past them before they can cut us off, so the vans accelerate, nearly running some people over, but then to our great delight one of them rear-ends another. Annoyed, the police shoot tear-gas at us, forcing everyone back. After a few minutes hesitation, the antifascist demo changes route and heads back towards the town centre, chased by tear-gas, stun grenades and baton charges, before dispersing. One person was arrested, then released a few hours later. There have been reports of an injured person, who may have been spotted leaving in an ambulance, but this can’t be confirmed yet.

All in all, an energetic and combative demo which highly disrupted our local fascists’ plans. Despite the gassing and the chasing, our day was a success. And despite all the protection they had, the far right didn’t have a good time. To the proud Ravier, we say : next time, come without your bodyguards. Then we’ll see what the “silent majority” which your party claims to represent thinks of you.

Anti-Fascist Overwhelm Nazis at Harrisburg Anti-Diversity Rally [VIDEOS]

On Saturday, November 5th, the Pennsylvania capital of Harrisberg had about 50 neo-Nazis from the National Socialist Movement descend on it for a planned rally.  This bi-annual “Rally Against Diversity” was one of the ways that the NSM attempts to show their presence in the state.  As expected, the 50 Nazis had their Confederate flags overwhelmed by over 200 anti-fascist counter protesters.

Screen Shot 2016-11-05 at 6.57.42 PM.png

In opposition to the NSM action another “Speak Up for Unity” rally was held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Harrisburg High School Auditorium.  This brought hundreds out, yet away from direct confrontation with the NSM.  The police had well prepared for counter protesters as they defended the Nazis with barricades, bringing in extra officers to ensure that no violent confrontations occurred.  It was clear that there was a strong sense that the police had protected the Nazis while refusing to side with the anti-racist community members present.

https://twitter.com/gstetler23/status/794991148846682112

Despite the police presence their were brief scuffles between Nazis and anti-fascist protesters, who were overwhelming the racist contingent.  So far there are no reports about if there were any injuries, to Nazis or to anti-fascist counter protesters.

A number of organizations had committed to joining the anti-fascist contingent, including the Black Rose / Rosa Negra Anarchist Federation and various Antifa organizations.

Meet the Alt Lite, the People Mainstreaming the Alt Right’s White Nationalism

What a fascist ideological current needs to become a movement is a way to crossover. To gain entry into the culture, into public discourse, into the collective consciousness. Over the years, fascism, with its various ideological positions like innate human inequality and essentialized identities, has found people that could bridge the edge of acceptability to their world of racism. In the 1980s and 1990s this was largely made up of Paleoconservatism, where the high water mark was people like Pat Buchanan. It also took the form of the broader conspiracy theorist world, which mainstreamed ideas like the Jews being responsible for 9/11 or the notion that the Holocaust was a Jewish fabrication.

Today, the Alt Right is the latest successful branding of the ongoing fascist movement, and it simply brings white nationalism into the current world of memes and ironic hashtags. Its massive growth has come, largely, from an internal culture where someone can rise to the status of subcultural celebrity without ever being known to the mainstream. Within this world they have still had to find ways of mainstreaming their message, and they have done this by cozying up to people who make many of their larger political points without all of the baggage.

This group of people has been termed the Alt Lite: a sort of Diet Alt Right who brings in a lot of their ideas and their cultural behavior without committing to the hard white nationalism, traditionalism, and reactionary revolutionary ideology. We have compiled a list of the key Alt Lite players who are helping to bring this movement to the surface, and discuss how they are important to target as mouthpieces for fascism.

milo

Milo Yiannopoulos

No person has done more to mainstream the Alt Right than Milo. After coming to fame while leading the charge to harass women over the ridiculous nonsense of GamerGate, Milo moved on to writing at Breitbart where he contributes click-bait fluff intended to incite anger against women, transgendered people, Muslims, and just about everyone else. As a publicly gay man, he has used his marginalized identity as a cover to basically go on violently anti-LGBT tirades, while at the same time championing Donald Trump as “pro-gay” since he is anti-Muslim. Milo wrote a guide to the Alt Right for Breitbart and has done many speeches about it, while also allowing people like the Radix Journal’s Richard Spencer attend his RNC party, interviewing people like Jack Donovan on his podcast, and speaks highly of race realist Jared Taylor. Milo has lacked the ideological consistency that the Alt Right prefers, which has made many turn on him, but he has made a celebrity for himself (and sizeable fortune) traveling to colleges and ramping up vicious reactionary sentiment.

Screen Shot 2016-11-03 at 12.45.43 PM.png

Gavin McGinnis

Gavin was the co-founder of Vice magazine, back when it was just reactionary hipster schlock and before it became a culturally relevant publication. In 2007 he was eventually forced out for his reactionary ideas, which he was propagating in op-eds for places like the American Conservative. Over the years he has popped up in a number of trendy publications and projects, always coming in with “anti-PC” talking points, usually drudging up openly racist, sexist, and homophobic tirades. Now he has his own talk show and contributes to places like the proto-Alt Right website Taki’s Magazine (more on this later), and he likes to interview people like, again, Jared Taylor and Richard Spencer. He openly professes American nationalism, usually with open racialism, and has committed to “IQ realism” between the sexes. He has uttered all but the most radical propositions of the Alt Right, even though he hints at under his awkward smile and handlebar moustache.

Screen Shot 2016-11-03 at 12.46.30 PM.png

Alex Jones

Over the years Alex Jones and Infowars have evolved in many ways. Best known for being a warehouse for various bizarre conspiracy theories, from 9/11 Truth to the Branch-Dividian compound raid in Waco, Jones represented a sort of paleolibertarianism that was against “globalism.” Though always on the right, he has shifted his publications even more so, and now represents a sizeable pro-Trump faction. Several of these commentators have referred to themselves as Alt Right (more on that in a moment), and Infowars itself has made its prime directive to harass leftists and post memes and videos attempting to mock them. It is difficult, of course, to mock the intelligence of anti-fascist protesters when you have built your career with announcements that Freemasons use the Washington monument to channel psychic energy. Though Jones himself has become a prime figure in the Alt Lite, it is more Infowars as an institution that acts in this service. This has been especially true since it has been very vulnerable to manipulation by Alt Right people, especially through their support of Students for Trump organizations and has had participation from people like Johnny Monoxide from The Right Stuff (Now featured on the podcast The Paranormies and does video for Red Ice TV).

Screen Shot 2016-11-03 at 12.47.22 PM.png

Stefan Molyneaux

Though known for his popular YouTube channel and basic libertarianism, Molyneaux has headed to the right as his videos increasingly focus on race and IQ, the anti-Semitic ideas of Kevin MacDonald, and the “realities” of black on white crime. He props up some of the key issues of the Alt Right, including interviewing Jared Taylor and others, and is seeming to take the same right-hand turn that people like Christopher Cantwell have. His deep participation in libertarianism as a political movement has given him a pass by many, and you will even find his videos on places like the Students for Liberty website (A note to SfL, if you want to deny your associations with the Alt Right, maybe you should drop Molyneaux videos from your website, stop hosting Milo events, and disallow Cantwell at your conventions.).

theodore-beale

Vox Day

This is a name that we actually may need to remove from the Alt Lite list and simply put in the camp of the Alt Right. Vox Day is best known as a Science Fiction author who staged a coup on the Hugo Awards, attempting to block writers of color and women from nominations. He is also a videogame designer and general social critic, one who spends his time going on The Daily Shoah, the Counter Currents podcast, and most other white nationalist enclaves. He calls himself Alt West as opposed to Alt White, mainly meaning he is a civic nationalist rather than a racial one (he is actually tri-racial himself). He is fine, however, with the violent level of racism in the Alt Right, and tries to give it a loudspeaker whenever possible. His book SJWs Always Lie has been one of the most read of the Alt Right tomes, and equally embarrassing in arguments and sophistication.

iD1DZBbS.jpg

Anne Coulter

This again might be a bit of a cheat since Coulter does not hit the same cultural scene that the rest of the Alt Lite does, but her power in the Alt Right makes her an important crossover point. Coulter has been a racial arsonist for years, tapping into the white rage implicit in the Republican Party and stoking racial animosity. She is one of the few traditional GOP apologists that has linked themselves to Trump, and she has done this since she has become a “single issue voter” when it comes to immigration. She said recently on Bill Maher that Trump could “do abortions in the Oval Office” if he built the border wall with Mexico. She has been a favorite on the Alt Right and has often been celebrated as she takes on their message about women, queer people, Muslims, and immigrants and sending it to a larger audience. She has even rubbed shoulders with the Alt Right at times, like at the 2012 CPAC where she called the Traditionalist Youth Network’s Scott Terry a “handsome Southern stud” after he spoke up at a panel in favor of chattel slavery.

kyj2rIAa_400x400.jpg

Sargon of Akkad

Named after the first ruler of Akkadian Empire of 24th Century BC, this prolific YouTuber has used his popularity to help the Alt Right edge itself into the more popular libertarian and Manosphere. Often indulging in “anti-SJW” attacks on women, bizarre misreadings of history, and various celebrations of Trump, he represents the kind of personality that most makes up the Alt Right. He trolls for donations since this appears to be his job, yet he has been unwilling to go far enough to make the Alt Right neo-Nazis happy.

photo.jpg

Joshua Seidel

This entry may be a bit of a cheat as well since the Alt Right has almost universally rejected him. Seidel is a Jewish writer who writes for Forward and has identified himself as Alt Right since he essentially doesn’t like “political correctness” and revels in insulting liberals. His article made literally every Alt Right website (including American Renaissance) say that he was not Alt Right since the Alt Right was anti-Jew (Andrew Anglin had even more choice words for him). What Seidel has done is to help confuse the actual nature of the Alt Right (just as Milo has) and made it seem like a slightly more acceptable political ideology than it actually is. If you hear Alt Right leaders uncritically invited to comment on social issues on cable news, it is because people like Seidel have softened their edge enough so that they seem like just another edge of modern conservatism.

Screen Shot 2016-11-03 at 12.52.05 PM.png

Paul Joseph Watson

The most popular co-host at Infowars, Paul Joseph Watson often refers to the Alt Right as “us” and seems like a “fellow traveler.” His focus has been on Trump and the “problem of Globalism,” voicing the anger of white men who feel threatened by changing demographics and an internationally connected world. He is less ideological than many, especially since there is not a lot of content at Infowars that is running too deep.

o7u1Zhin_400x400.jpg

Lauren Southern

Southern has taken on the role as a female Canadian libertarian who spends most of her time attempting to antagonize the left. When Augustus Sol Invictus was banned from entering Canada to speak at an American Front event, she came to his defense and harassed protesters until she had urine thrown on her. In 2015 she ran as a libertarian candidate in Canadian elections and currently runs Rebel Media where she mocks Slutwalks and the International Women’s Day.

sam hyde.jpg

Sam Hyde

The internet comedian who founded the Million Dollar Extreme sketch show has been known for parroting Alt Right talking points, and getting his voice onto places like Adult Swim and a controversial and satirical Ted Talk. Hyde has often come under the radar in many of these exposes, but has clear ties to white nationalist hacker Weev, who is known for his Nazism, pro-genocide views, and his work at the neo-Nazi Alt Right website The Daily Stormer. Hyde is often used as a meme by Alt Right Twitter handles, and they see him as a strategic tool to get their ideas out under the guise of humor. His troll behavior and white supremacy has been well known in media circles for quite some time, but it is only counter-trolling about Hyde being a “mass shooter” suspect that has gotten the press talking. Hyde joined in on harassing women during the GamerGate controversy, which also started the fame of Milo. Between his Twitter account, his racist TV show, and his various campus speaking events, Hyde mocks the LGBT community, accuses black people of low intelligence and criminal behavior, and rails against immigration.

Outlets

 BB-logo-highres.jpg

Breitbart

No outlet is more important to the Alt Lite than Breitbart. Those on the liberal left often uncritically parrot that it is the center of the Alt Right, which is untrue and presents a problem. If the Alt Right is Breitbart, then it represents an incredibly sizeable part of the conservative establishment. The Alt Right, instead, is just white nationalism rebranded, complete with the belief in the genetic inferiority of black people and the pernicious world conspiracy of Global Jewry. Breitbart is instead more of a reactionary conservative outlet that revels in race baiting and woman bashing. It has been a major source for Alt Right research, fueling their “hate facts” that they use to present a narrative about the white world “under attack.” They have given an incredible platform to people like Milo, including articles that were friendly to the Alt Right and certainly support their worldview. It has helped to mainstream their message in very broad ways and should be confronted on those terms.

mq1.jpg

Taki’s Magazine

Taki was Breitbart back when Breitbart was shilling for the Tea Party. The magazine has been around for many years as a paleoconservative outlet that was “pop culture savvy.” After Richard Spencer was fired for being too racist for the American Conservative, Scott McConnell helped him to get the job as the editor of Taki, taking his racial arsonist perspective and refashioning it for social media clickbait. It has made a habit of picking up the work of people who have been dropped by the mainstream conservative movement for their racialism, like Paul Gottfried, former National Review writer John Derbyshire, former Forbes writer and VDare founder Peter Brimelow, race realist Jared Taylor, and disgraced Heritage Foundation researcher Jason Richwine. After Spencer left Taki to found Alternative Right (and the Alt Right in general), Taki remained the proto-Alt Right publication it had always been, and has continued forward publishing “edgy” racists like Gavin McGinnis.

logo.jpg

Infowars

As mentioned above, Infowars has become a huge internet sensation that mixes silly conspiracy theories with “Old Right” style isolationist nationalism. Its daily functions are mainly to attack liberals, posting videos calling protesters “trannies,” saying that they are “triggered,” and trying to show them in stupid debates. While the host, Alex Jones, has taken a sharp rightward turn, the website broadly has been taken up by a pro-militia, pro-nationalist cadre that spends more time attacking minorities than fighting the “New World Order.”

property-freedom-society.jpg

Property and Freedom Society

This is not exactly a publication, but more of a conference. It is essentially a libertarian conference that happens abroad, but it has hosted most Alt Right leaders in conversations that were openly racist and anti-Semitic. People like Jared Taylor, Richard Spencer, racist scientist Richard Lynn, and others have all appeared there, showing some of the crossover that libertarianism has traditionally had with the far right. Even against pressure it has maintained these racialist guests and has become an international forum that they have used to their advantage. We would also put the Mises Institute as following many of these connections as well, especially with the neo-Confederate movement, but not quite to the level of the Property and Freedom Society.

scv_logo.gif

Sons of Confederate Veterans

Again, not a publication but an organization that often positions itself as non-political. It was from this relatively neutral Confederate memorial organization, which does things like Civil War remembrance events and setting up cemetery monuments to Confederate soldiers, that the League of the South developed to make a more revolutionary neo-Confederate and Southern Nationalist movement. The Sons of Confederate Veterans continue to come out and support the more radical fringe of the movement, and shares a lot of members with the LoS, the Council of Conservative Citizens, and even the KKK.

There is a certain complexity to the way that the Alt Right plays with the Alt Lite, and the two are often at odds. What is important is that the Alt Lite gets the “red carpet” by institutions, schools, and companies in ways that the Alt Right rarely does. They have also forced major media institutes to accommodate even the most radical voices in the Alt Right, and are allowing their views to have a seat at the table.

Because of their major profile they are also more vulnerable to pressure. Milo is continuing on his expensive “Dangerous Faggot Tour,” and he will be doing well-paid events at campuses around the country from now until mid-2017. Campaigns can be done at colleges to stop his events from happening, or shutting them down when they do. People like Molyneaux are equally vulnerable, and pressure can be put on libertarian organizations like Reason, Caito, and others who attempt to ally with left movements. As he is further marginalized he will have less and less access to mainstream discourse. With YouTube, podcast, and web hosting, complaints can be put in to the service providers since they are almost universally violating the Terms of Service. This presents an easy pressure point to cut off their voice, and this has been incredibly successful when shutting down full Alt Right podcasts like The Daily Shoah and Fash the Nation.

With places like Infowars, people are often going to see them in public antagonizing protesters at Trump actions or general left-oriented social movements. This can be dealt with in its own way, and it is great to stonewall their antagonisms by refusing to engage and blocking their cameras while overwhelming their microphones with sirens and megaphones. What they want more than anything is to get a protester to engage with them so they can try an antagonize them into doing something foolish or attempt to throw silly talking points out, so they can instead by blocked from having a voice entirely. We stand in solidarity with the IWW members who blocked Alex Jones at the RNC, the PSUSU and supporters in Portland who silenced Infowars supporting the Portland State Students for Trump, and the various anti-Trump protesters that made Infowars correspondants look like fools during the primaries.

The Alt Lite is likely to stay int the semi-mainstream past a Trump loss and the further marginalization of the Alt Right. They have used the brief moment of half-way acceptability the Alt Right has achieved, where they think it is safe to flirt with the Alt Right to gain “street cred.” After this white nationalism is further marginalized they will likely attempt to put distance between themselves and its racial nationalism, and it is up to us to stop them from doing this. Milo’s career needs to never lose the taint of his open racism, even if he tempers his rhetoric. We need to continue to hold their feet to the fire and to set a standard that nationalism of any form will not be tolerated.

White Nationalist ‘Daily Shoah’ Calling For Mass Campus Propaganda Weekend After Election

It is well known that white nationalists/Alt Right are some of the worst organizers on the planet. In general, just successfully getting a meme or poster into the public is considered a win for them, while their left wing opponents are carrying out complex organizing campaigns with thousands of participants.

Flyer from UM Campus.

The Daily Shoah, and its website The Right Stuff, is not calling for an “agit prop” attempt at propaganda the weekend after the election. Following Alt Right posterings at the University of Michigan and the Iowa State University, who most assume the Daily Shoah was behind even though they persist they were not, they are calling for posters to be put up at major universities after the election. If Trump is to win, then it will gloat, if he does not, then it will scale up the revolutionary call for “white identity.”

Mike Enoch and Seventh Son (Sven) from the Daily Shoah cite the multi-million dollar to commitment the University of Michigan made after the Alt Right posters showed up as a victory. In response to the racialist content they university extended a huge investment in diversity training and inclusionary policy developments, something that the Alt Right is claiming victory on even though anti-racist organizers have been campaigning for it for years. Since, statistically, these diversity trainings actually lower community feelings of bigotry, equalize educational outcomes, and generally work against white nationalist interests, we are going to allow them to continue their “victorious campaign” by inspiring more universities to confront racism.

What is likely to occur is many college-aged Daily Shoah insiders are going to go on campus with these posters during that weekend, attempting to get them up in the cover of night. The Daily Shoah has worked hard to develop a community around their message boards, and that is spilling out into actual community groups like the Houston Goylers in Houston, Texas, the New York Forum, in New York City, and groups in Dallas, Portland, Oregon, Detroit, and other cities. They have given the Alt Right a huge organizational boon, and they seem to have a great deal of crossover with Identity Europa.

Many of the flyers that will be used are found on Alt Right and Right Stuff commentator Reactionary Tree’s, A.K.A. Charles Lyons, website.  Here he has been putting up some racially charged propaganda.

For those who want to confront this behavior on campuses, then groups of students and anti-fascist supporters could do late night campus patrols looking to capture these people on camera. Since they thrive on anonymity for their racism, exposure will shut down their attempts at organizing. This is likely to take place on campuses that have seen this behavior before, especially where Identity Europa propaganda posters have appeared.

Fash the Nation Gets Banned on SoundCloud

Many of us were horrified when Alt Right staple podcast Fash the Nation, the most popular podcast in the Right Stuff white nationalist podcast network, hit the top spot in one of the political subcategories at SoundCloud. Like most Alt Right podcasts, Fash the Nation relies on platforms like SoundCloud to meet most of their audience since these reach the largest listening audience. They are also violating the Terms of Service given their pervasive use of racial slurs, arguments that people of color have lower IQs than whites, Holocaust Denial, and other forms of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and generally disgusting banter.

After many anti-fascists, including Anti-Fascist News, began a campaign to let SoundCloud know exactly what Fash the Nation, the Daily Shoah, and other white nationalist podcasts were using SoundCloud for, they were officially banned and removed from the podcast platform. After being let know that they were “dedicated to violating the Terms of Service,” their shows were all removed from their hosting and they were prohibited from posting new shows. As the largest and most popular white nationalist podcast in the country, this is a major blow to their effort. This comes after the Daily Shoah was banned on SoundCloud, then used another name to get back on. They were banned once again along with Fash the Nation after anti-fascists let SoundCloud know that they were attempting to go under the radar.

While this is a victory, there are still several dozen other white nationalist podcasts that are still using SoundCloud. They have to continue to be exposed and removed, disallowing these racists a platform for their violent rhetoric. They are attempting to build their own platform for hosting and podcasting currently, and we hope they do as it will further marginalize them and shrink their echo chamber. They require social media and broad hosting platforms to mainstream their message, and if they slowly are banned from these services they will only be accessible to their ideological core.

Below we are including the contact information to report these podcasts to SoundCloud, as well as a list of open white nationalist Alt Right podcasts that are using SoundCloud to extend their reach of violence.  Write and call in and let them know that you do not support these voices of racial nationalism and reactionary force on SoundCloud!

Alt Right Troll Ricky Vaughn Banned on Twitter

Twitter has been the place that the Alt Right really came into their own. Lax rules mixed with a culture of anonymity let the Alt Right expand beyond their publishing ideologues and into the snarky culture of memes, hash tags, and trolling. While this is where their numbers have ballooned, one of their archetypes is complete in Ricky Vaughn. Named after the character in the movie Major League, Vaughn epitomizes the Alt Right troll, harassing Jewish commentators and people of color and taking Alt Right arguments and crystalizing them down to snarky bite-sized bits. After Vaughn amassed 60,000 followers with his “edgelord” harassment, Twitter finally banned him for violating behavior.

Vaughn’s ideas are as basic as can be, which has lent to his success. When he describes his political evolution he says things like “I tried liberalism, then I tried conservatism” boiling down complex political positions to the most simplistic ideologies that is surprising he is able to put together coherent political points. This may be why he has limited his commentary to 140 characters rather than any substantial articles. After getting his start on the controversial My Posting Career, he went onto Twitter with RickyVaughn99 in an attempt to bridge mainstream Trump supporters with Alt Right talking points, gaining popularity after Gamergate. Here he mixed his criticism against non-white immigration with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories of people like Kevin MacDonald.  He was cited often as one of the conversation influencers on Twitter, especially with Alt Right hashtags like #whitegenocide, and was followed by three Trump staffers.

Though he may be arguing that it was his “Free Speech” being violated, Twitter only bans users for harassing behavior and for things that are deemed incitements to violence. Alt Lite commentator Milo Yiannoupolos was also recently banned on Twitter after he incited followers to racially terrorize Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones. This is a major blow to the Alt Right since they rely on this trolling culture, and it seems like Twitter and other social media outlets are starting to refuse to participate. They recently had to soften their language to racist “codewords” since open racial slurs are getting them banned.

There is a difficult side to this as well since Twitter could, theoretically, start banning people for other reasons as well. What we can focus on, however, is their behavior and how we can set standards for conduct in these social media spaces that do not allow for racist harassment. Going after the Alt Right where it lives, the Internet, allows us to cut it off at the source, and win in the only arena that they have ever had any real success in.

Confronting Fascist Entryism: Bioregionalism, Left-Hand Path, and the Brooklyn Commons

Recently a supporter emailed us to let us know something a little strange happening at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Among the Lovecraftian horror authors, R’lyeh themed t-shirt vendors, and various international films, the organizers had invited someone a touch more eccentric. Diabolus Rex is an occultist from the area who spends his time building the Ragnarok Engine, which is a large metal ship that is meant to generate occult energy. Speaking in a mix of prophetic End Times jargon, conspiracy prose, and pan-esoteric mashups, he says that this will fuel a black magic enterprise, possibly bringing the end of the world.

Though on first glance Rex is likely to appear as an oddity that an H.P. Lovecraft fanfest would enjoy a peek at, but that is really only without delving deeper. Rex was featured on Jack Donovan’s podcast Start the World. People will know Donovan as a part of the controversial Wolves of Vinland folkish heathen group, and for speaking at white nationalist conferences like American Renaissance and writing for publications like the Radix Journal. Know for his Queer Fascism, Jack writes about “male tribalism” and the need for men to think only about their in-group and to reclaim a culture of violence.

This was not Rex’s only connection to the Alt Right as on his Facebook he shares links from the esoteric-loving white nationalist publisher Counter Currents and rants about blocking Muslim immigration. More than this, he focuses on a “will to power” reading of left-hand path mysticism where he believes in creating a culture of hierarchy based in the domination of others, which includes human sacrifice. He even includes Julius Evola, the fascist mystic, as one of his key influences, as well as seeming to draw on Aryan esoteric and rune magic. He makes snide comments about Jews, and especially about “socialists” and those who want “equality.”

The question of whether Rex is a fascist is dubious; he seems to straddle a line in some ways, and may or may not actually fall firmly into that category. The burden of his meta-politics does not fall on the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival (even though they were notified ahead of time of his connection), but it presents a clear problem that happens in spaces from left to right, from the arts to the social sciences.

Anti-fascist researcher and author Alexander Reid Ross made this process the key idea for his upcoming book from AK Press, Against the Fascist Creep. In it he chronicles the neo-fascist project since World War II and the shifting, often contradictory strategies that fascist movements take. Using ideas and patterns from the left, fascist movements attempt to co-opt struggles, transform radical movements, and adopt elements of the left while maintaining a far-right meta-politics. This means that areas that are not normally associated with racialist and nationalist politics, such as the pop arts, environmentalism, or anti-colonialism, have become places they believe they can make inroads.

To gain popularity, fascists develop and adapt syncretic ideologies to meet and manipulate leftists and radical activists. Their motivations are often concealed through the rhetoric of the “right to difference” and “racial diferentialism.” It is important to see through and reject the rhetoric of fascism in order to garner a better understanding of its general adherence to inequality, elitism, and hate. (AFC, pg. 7)

While most people subscribing to Left Hand Path traditions would find fascist politics and racism disgusting, there are those who see it as a way to developing an imperial power. People may reject the notion that ideologues like Rex have a creeping fascist politics because of the sexual libertine ideas and animal rights adherence, but these are just pieces of what is a larger philosophy of power and domination.

The fascist entryism into areas associated with the left is both conscious and unconscious, and those on the far right often see these crossover movements as legitimately a part of their struggle.

Quite a while ago, bioregionalists in Oregon were putting on a conference about their ecological movement. There is a push to look at the bioregion of the Pacific Northwest, sometimes divided up into being the western side of Oregon and Washington, as a distinct ecological “bioregion.” While there are nationalist movements that want to redefine state boundaries, bioregionalism is generally a project of the left and sees itself as a progressive notion for protecting environmental areas. Because of its creation of borders and boundaries, as well as because of right-wing intervention into environmental movements, it has also attracted those from the more questionable elements of the right.

Among the various invitees for the conference was also Vince Rinehart, a tribal member of the Tlingit people and an editor with the National Anarchist website Attack the System. AtS is well known for allying with white nationalists and racialists, developing their own “pan-secessionist” ideology that calls for anarchists uniting with fascists to attack “the empire.” Keith Preston, the founder of the website, often speaks at neo-fascist conferences like the National Policy Institute. Rinehart himself supports a strong tribal nationalism, one where racial groups could get their own exclusive tribal communities.

After the public learned that Rinehart was included in the conference there was an understandable uproar, and many in the more questionable areas of the bioregionalist community tried to defend Rinehart’s inclusion. There was an aspect of agreement with Rinehart: it took opposing ideologies coming together to defend the bioregion. This is exactly the “creeping fascism” that those on the right want, to undermine coherent politics and to gain entry into revolutionary movements for their own philosophical bent.

This showed up in an especially embarrassing blog post by Casey Bryan Corcoran after Rose City Antifa refused to participate. Here Corcoran admitted to both understanding Attack the System’s fascist roots and to doing a recorded interview with them.

I want to be clear that I am not denying Fascism’s unsavory past and present.  I will also not deny the unsavory past and present of the Left.  I am hopeful that Bioregionalism can be formulated in a way that opposes both toxic ideologies, and I see both the Left and the Right as his-stories not to be repeated.  I also reject both the Trojan Horse of ‘Third Position’ racialism, and the re-colonizing impositions and racial animosities that thrive in Leftist subcultures.  However, attacking everyone I don’t see eye-to-eye with has proven a terrible way to build a community, and I have engaged in dialogue with a good handful of people expressing remarkably problematic ideas about life, taking my fair share of flack for this in the process.  I feel this risk is worth it, as I feel no human being is motivated by pure evil intentions.  Pardon my optimism if you must.   I have also observed peoples ideas change over time, mostly as the result of relationships with other people who are not quick to judge.

Here he goes into the defining characteristic of creeping fascism, the ability to “move beyond right and left” to something new. This is Third Positionism crystalized, the refusal to see fascism for what it is in an effort to “move beyond the failures of the past.” He continues on to use ad hominem attacks, to dance around the clear far-right associations, and to defend Rinehart’s racialist politics.

Rinehart was eventually removed from his panel against his own protest, though he still spoke at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference in Eugene, Oregon at the University of Oregon. The conference is known for including controversial speakers like Lierre Keith, the transphobic founder of Deep Green Resistance. Rinehart spoke on a panel with members of Occupied Cascadia and Portland State University Cascadia chapter.

Rinehart went on Jack Donovan’s podcast as well to defend himself, as well as to re-commit himself to solidarity with ethnic nationalism.  Though at the time Rinehart was already known for his problematic views, this was only the tip of the iceberg and many in the Cascadia bioregionalist movement seemed fine with flirting with the most reviled ideas imaginable. There was something of a reckoning and the left wing of the bioregionalist movement is much more conscious of this type of entryism today, but it is something that continues in left spaces regardless.

Recently the Brooklyn Commons turned a few heads when they hosted Christopher Bollyn, a 9/11 Truther who has entered crossover politics from his deep anti-Semitism. Bollyn was formerly a staff member at the Liberty Lobby, which published Spotlight. The Liberty Lobby was the organization founded by Willis Carto, and was the leading white nationalist organization for decades. Though it is less known than organizations like the National Alliance, it was arguably even more influential, starting off in the 1960s with hundreds of thousands of subscribers and riding a wave of anti-Communism and anti-integrationist fervor on the right into influence in the halls of power. They eventually became open about their racialist politics, believing that Jews secretly run the world, that black people have lower IQs than whites, and that people of color are more prone to crime. They founded the Holocaust Denial organization The Institute for Historical Review, and after that organization was wrestled away from Carto by some previous employees he went on to found the Barnes Review to do the same thing.

Bollyn was on the staff of the Liberty Lobby between 2000 and 2006, when the Spotlight was renamed the American Free Press. Bollyn, with his penchant for anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, claims that Jews themselves were behind all U.S. government decisions, that the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is real, and that Jews actually did the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Bollyn has been incredibly public about what he thinks about Jews, not usually even hiding behind anti-Semitic “dog whistle” language. Below are a few quotes compiled by anti-fascist writer Spencer Sunshine.

  • “Great nations, like the United States, France, and Germany, once had anti-Masonic and anti-Semitic political parties that acted to challenge the pernicious influence of secret Masonic and Jewish organizations.  Today we no longer have such political parties to counter these secret networks and find ourselves ruled by B’nai B’rith and Jewish Freemasons.”
  • “The ‘false flag’ terrorism of 9–11 is a monstrous Jewish-Zionist crime of our time.  The true culprits of this heinous crime are clearly being protected by a gang of like-minded Jewish Zionists in the highest positions of the U.S. government.”
  • “It seems like being a Jew is a lot like being a wolf.”
  • He openly cites the Protocols line that: “Not a single announcement will reach the public without our control.”
  • “I suspect that Arlen Specter is a high-level agent of the B’nai B’rith, the secret organization of Jewish Freemasons which I consider to be the real Elders of Zion.”

After the Commons booked Bollyn there was a near revolt by many of the organizations and projects that use the place, including Jacobin Magazine, the Right to the City Alliance, and the Marxist Education Project. They wrote a letter to the Commons listing their disdain in a quick statement.

As organizations that work out of the Brooklyn Commons, we reject the antisemitic politics of Christopher Bollyn. We do not have any say in event booking and management at the Commons but agree that such politics should have no place in leftist spaces.

The event was allowed to continue by the space’s owner, Melissa Ennen, who is a 9/11 Truther herself. In her own statement she said that there should be space for hateful people to speak because it can also be enlightening.

I never intended for The Commons to be a safe space at all times. Nor was it designed to be a cozy cocoon for intramural debate among leftists. From the beginning my goal has been to foster discussion among disparate groups across a wide political spectrum.

This is clearly a cherry-picked decision since usually the Commons would not normally allow a speaker with openly racist views, even though they represent “a wide political spectrum.” Instead, she wants to make it a left-specific space, except in that they allow anti-Semites.

Once the event did take place there was a small, yet understandably angry, contingent outside protesting the event. Those who tried to go inside were assaulted by security, and other people associated with the Commons attacked opposition in different situations. Some Antifa organizations have now called for a boycott on the Commons, which is a boycott we are joining in to send a message that anti-Semitism will not be tolerated.

***

In all of these situations, what happens is a break in left-oriented politics allows for some of the most abhorrent examples of far-right politics to work their way in. Though they are often challenged in the end, this has allowed many of these movements to flourish in ways that a concerted opposition would eliminate. This comes, in part, from the fact that education about fascism and its interlocking tentacles is not well done even in radical spaces, and it is important to understand the depths of the nationalist project and how it tries to seek crossover into, and cover from, the left. It also feeds on the unchecked acts of bigotry and oppression inside of leftist spaces, where racism, sexual assault, and abuse still happen even though the rhetoric and ideas are intended to challenge it.

This is an ongoing project, one that does not end in one project or confrontation.   Instead, as the fascist movement shifts and changes, we need to be virulent and learn about how it is attempting to adapt. Radical environmentalism, anti-imperialist movements, animal rights, Palestinian solidarity, anti-globalization, pagan religious communities, and many iconoclastic arts projects all have a special place in this because they are areas that Nazis have attempted to stake their claim. A clear idea of what the threat is, a coherent politic in opposition, and the ability to shift and adapt is what will help to ensure that creeping fascism is crushed at entry.

Taking on Fascism and Racism from the Ground Up.
